Tram Flexity Swift Karlsruhe, Bombardier Transportation GmbH

IFS Design was responsible for designing the exterior and the interior as well as the driver’s cab for the 30 dual-system trams ordered for the Karlsruhe Verkehrsbetriebe (Karlsruhe Municipal Transport). The particular challenge here was to take account of all the special demands associated with dual-system vehicles. Since these vehicles were also required to operate on local railway services (under heavy rail conditions), in other words at higher speeds than a conventional tram, it was also necessary to embody this requirement into the design.

The first vehicle of this type was delivered in July 2013.
