Commuter Train Protos Redesign, FTD Fahrzeugtechnik Bahnen Dessau GmbH

28.05.2014
The redesign is based on earlier vehicles in which engineering features have been modified. There was design latitude in the area of the FRP front end mask. The coach body shell and the basic construction remained untouched. There were two different designs: the first version is to be regarded as an evolutionary stage of the earlier vehicle. The original feature of the window area continuing downwards in the middle is retained, but is discontinued where the coupling recess is located. The lighting arrangement was revised and updated to reflect current LED technology. Clear corners are used to accentuate the character. The second design has a more retrospective character, recalling the surface designs common in the age of the streamlined trains. The interplay of surface design and panelling pattern is interpreted in the modern idiom and overall it shows a forward-looking vision. These designs were modelled in 1:20 scale by IFS Design and presented at InnoTrans 2014 on the stand of Fahrzeugtechnik Dessau.
